Enigmo iPhone Game Review

Enigmo by Pangea Software is a very fun puzzle game for the iPhone. If you like puzzles and puzzle games, this is definitely worth the $10 to play.

As shown in the picture above, the object of the game is to get forty drops, in this image water, from the source dropper to the same color target bucket. You have several types of tools to use but they are in limited supply based on each puzzle. Puzzle pieces range from one to over ten items to manipulate. It takes a little getting used to the controls. The first time I played it, I spent several rounds trying out all the different items to see their characteristics. For example the slides can actually bounce drops off the underside of them. Or if you hit a slide at too high of a velocity the drop will just slide off the wrong end. The image below shows the starting puzzle with the single bouncer selected.

With an item selected you can reposition it or rotate it. By touching the outer ring you can expand it to get a more fine grained control on the rotate as shown below. You can also zoom into and out of the puzzle area to aid in your positioning in certain parts of the puzzle. Trying to accurately rotate an object while fully zoomed out is a big challenge. I find it was much easier to zoom into the section then do a rotate.

The puzzles get progressively harder. Shown below is level 24 where you have to jump through several hoops to disable forcefields and traverse a very large arc. There is no time limit to each level, but if you happen to finish it quickly there is a Bonus counter in the corner counting down which adds to your score the quicker you finish. You can also get bonus points for not using all the tools provided. One of the really nice thing about this game is that there are multiple correct answers for several puzzles. You are free to explore how different items interact and see if you can optimize your solution. I'd really like to see a play mode where after I filled my bucket I could continue to play on that puzzle for a while before going on to the next one.

I've only had one crash while playing the game so far and that happened after I had put two particle accelerators in series and was shooting water droplets to the other side of a puzzle. The accelerators are one of my favorite tools in the game. So if you like puzzles, I would recommend picking up a copy of this game.
